History

The Shell Shop was founded by a local couple in 1965 and has traded every season since then.  We took over in 2007 and now open all year round.  We opened our online store in 2011.

The Heritage/Conservation Area of Poulton-le-Sands is the site of the original fishing village which Morecambe grew from.  It has a heritage trail which covers its interesting history with a leaflet guide and map.

There have been many changes in this area over the years, we have lost the fish market and the pier, but the shop front itself holds special interest as it dates from before 1900 and is the only complete shop front left in the area.  Orginally a boarding house, it has evolved through cafe, sweet shop and various other guises until it became The Shell Shop, with fond memories from customers who came to Morecambe from 1965 onwards.

Morecambe is a lovely place, with beautiful views and, now we have the sandy beaches again, it's a perfect spot for a family day at the beach.
